Run up to the publication of ‘Breakfast at Darcy’s’
On the run up to publication of ‘From Notting Hill with Love…Actually’ last year I kept a six month video count down. http://www.alimcnamara.co.uk/10.html People told me they really enjoyed watching the process of how a story turns into a book. So I’ve decided to do it all again with ‘Breakfast at Darcy’s’ but with a mix of photos, videos and chat this time.
A few weeks ago I saw the cover proofs for the first time, and just like with my first novel I was quite speechless at how pretty they were.

Then after I’d read through the manuscript and approved all the changes my copy-editor had made to my work (oh yes, get used to it if you want to be an author, there is a long queue of people to get through once you get your publishing deal before your book hits the shelves, (Editor, copy editor, proof reader.) my manuscript has now been type set into how it will look on the pages of a real book, and sent back to me today for a final proof read.
This will be the final time I see it now before it’s printed into review copies and then the final copies that go to the shops later in the year.

Although I love my story, any author will tell you that after this stage you never want to see your characters ever again you’ve read your story so many times! But that memory fades, and by the time your book hits the shops you’ve fallen in love with them all over again!
More soon…
1st July 2011
The uncorrected bound proofs arrive!

These copies are sent to journalists & reviewers to read ahead of publication. Its the first time the story really begins to look like the completed version you’re going to see in the shops in November…

Me on the front cover…?
My publishers wanted a photo for some future publicity of me as Darcy on the front cover of the book. Here’s how we got on trying to re-create that cover…
